Porto Torres is situated on what was one of the original Roman Colonies in Sardinia and still preserves a large part of its ancient Roman structures; aqueducts, sewers, thermal baths, the forum and a few temples are in good condition and the bridge on the Mannu river can still be used Nearby is the town of Sassari, whose medieval streets and squares are lined with churches and palazzi, many of them fine examples of Renaissance architecture. The Museum Sanna is noted for its collection of artifacts from Sardinia’s Nuraghic culture
